where consumer electronics go to die

Foreign Policy has a compelling photo essay on third world dumping grounds for electronic waste, and how the scavenging of these dumps for precious metals has become a major industry.

Whenever we have moved or needed to divest ourselves of old equipment, we've tried to locate recycling facilities (kudos to some of the universities that I've worked for) or we've made donations to charities. Now I wonder what really happened to those monitors we made arrangements for in Boston.

updating the uva library web site

I want to point everyone to the new blog set up by our Communications department discussing the process for updating our Library web site.

It's "Radical Transparency" at http://uvalibwebdev.wordpress.com/.

Please take a look at what we've got going on. We're definitely looking for feedback!
